The settings of a Gmaill account with PopTraU should be:

In your Gmail account:

You can read, or create and send, your Gmail messages from a client or device that supports POP, like Microsoft Outlook or Windows Live Mail.

Here's how to enable POP in Gmail:

Sign in to Gmail.

Click the gear in the top right.

Select Settings.

Click Forwarding and POP/IMAP.

Select Enable POP for all mail or Enable POP for mail that arrives from now on.

Choose what to do with your messages after your POP client or device receives them.

Click Save Changes.

For the email client:

Name of the account: Gmail

Protocol: pop3

Email: user@gmail.com

For answer: user@gmail.com

Incoming mail: pop.gmail.com

Outgoing mail: smtp.gmail.com

Email user: user@gmail.com

Type your password.

Enable "Memorize password".

Servers:

Incoming mail (SMTP): 465

Check the box "This server needs a secured connection (SSL)".

Outgoing mail (POP3): 995

Check the box "This server needs a secured connection (SSL)".

For PopTrayU:

If not done, download and install the last version of PopTrayU: http://sourceforge.net/projects/poptrayu/files/

Then, download and install the SLL plugin: http://sourceforge.net/projects/poptrayupop3ssl

Completely close PoptrayU after installing the plugin and then reopen.

Set up the five options by default.

Go to the account tab, choose "New account".

Name of the account: Gmail (or an other one of your choice).

Server for incoming mail: pop.gmail.com

User: recent:user@gmail.com

Type your password.

Protocol: pop3

Check the box: "Use SSL/TSL".

Port: 995

Authentification Mode: Auto

SSL/TLS Mode: Auto

On different tabs, in addition to the five options by default, there are many options that you can enable or desable or customise the way you want. More details here.

Click on "Apply", "OK" and "Save" when necessary.

Test the account.

If everthing works fine, you are ready to test all the settings by sending you a message at your Gmail account. You will see if PopTrayU notifies you at the arrival of a new message, if you can preview the message and if you can download it with your email client.
