Workable solution for checking GMail without FreePops

Post by hawkeye1701 » Sat Jul 23, 2005 3:37 pm

After many attempts and failures for checking my Gmail with PopTray, i finally found a solution and it doesn't use FreePops.

Don't even bother with the GMail plugin, it won't work.

Download the plugin for POP3 SSL. And enable that plugin in the options. Create a new account and use the POP3 SSL account type.
Username: your username @gmail.com"
Password: whatever your password is
Port: 995

It works for me!!!!!!

I'm using PopTray 3.2 beta

Errr... where EXACTLY do I download the POP3 SSL plugin. I cannot seem to find this specific plugin on the poptray.org plugin page or the sourceforge. I must be overlooking something. I'm on Win2000.

And, once installed... what server do I put in for gmail? pop.gmail.com?

Thank you.

Never mind. Found it in the Delphi plugins.

http://voxel.dl.sourceforge.net/sourcef ... _beta6.exe

Works great. Gmail checking is fine now.

Thanks,

Create an Account in PopTray for each GMail account. Use the settings listed above with a different username for each account.

Hello,

the plugin is not longer available at this address. Seems that there is a little bit chaos in plugin section/plugin download site... But I saw an other developer gots a good idea: He adds descriptions to the plugins woah :)

The plugin is available at Source Forge, use the url below to find it...

http://sourceforge.net/project/showfile ... p_id=76783

or use the link below for a direct download after choosing your d/l site...

Download PopTrayPlugins_beta6.exe

Install the plugin, then enable the plugin in the PopTray OPTIONS TAB, PLUGINS.
SAVE OPTIONS, QUIT PopTray and RESTART.

This method worked until 9/15/05 or so, but now Poptray hangs trying to connect-- for me at least.

I understand that gMail is tinkering with its aurthentication protocols. gMail drive died on 9/10 for that reason.

Did you install the SSL plugin?

Below is the link if you still need to install SSL.
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/popt ... e?download

Then also enable the SSL Plugin in PopTray on the OPTIONS TAB, PLUGINS, check the box for the SSL Plugin.
SAVE OPTIONS

Then in PopTray on the ACCOUNTS TAB, GMAIL ACCOUNT tab, PROTOCOL - Select the SSL.
SAVE ACCOUNTS, QUIT PopTray, RESTART for changes to take effect.

AFAIK - You probably need to use your entire email address -> esteban1@gmail.com

You must also LOGIN to your GMAIL ACCOUNT and ENABLE POP ACCESS.
