I suggest using FreePops, K9, and PopTray together. This is the setup I have been using for over 2 years.
With a setup like this you can retrieve almost any webmail or POP3 email, have it filtered by K9 and either be deleted, marked as SPAM or be notified of good email by PopTray.
FreePops Setup
FreePops is easy to install. The only real setup after installing, is to COPY and PASTE a SHORTCUT or LINK to FreePops in your Window's STARTUP FOLDER. That's it. This will make sure FreePops is running anytime you want to check your webmail.
Give FreePops internet access in your FIREWALL.
K9 Setup
Install K9. It will place a SHORTCUT in your Window's STARTUP FOLDER.
In K9 on the CONFIGURATION TAB, in the INTERFACE Section, check the boxes for...

ALWAYS SHOW RECENT EMAILS WHEN OPENING

Fill in the time you want to use. I use 2 days and 4 hours.
Tick ORGANIZE THEM.
Also check the boxes for LIMIT STORED GOOD EMAILS and LIMIT STORED SPAM EMAILS and set a number for each. I have mine set to 500.
In K9 on the ADVANCED TAB, in the FILTERS LIST, check the box for USE A WHITELIST FILTER.

PopTray Setup
INSTALL PopTray
On PopTray's ACCOUNTS Tab...
Set the SERVER to 127.0.0.1
Set PORT to 9999
For POP3 access, set LOGIN to (YOUR POP SERVER) / 110 / (YOUR EMAIL ACCOUNT)
So for POP3 access it would look like this : mail.poptray.org/110/kydave@poptray.org
(Some POP3 email servers may require your email accont login to include the domain name, others may not.)
For WEBMAIL access it would look like this : 127.0.0.1/2000/kydave@webmail.com
Your PASSWORD stays as is.
SAVE ACCOUNTS.

This example has the breaking point at 85.9% for MARK AS SPAM and above that is DELETED. Following this example, it would be easy for you to set the percentage at the point you would like to use.
Give PopTray internet access in your FIREWALL.
Now all email ranked 86% or above will be DELETED from Server. Mail ranked from 50% to 85.9% will be MARKED AS SPAM. Then simply click the DELETE SPAM Button after taking a look to check for sure it is SPAM.
After cleaning the SPAM off your accounts, then use the email client of your choice with these PopTray account settings to download just your GOOD EMAILS.
I know this is a complicated system, but it works EXTREMELY WELL once setup, there are almost NO adjustments to be made. If K9 marks a message incorrectly, you just click the SPAM or GOOD button. K9 stores a copy of the emails it scans, so if one is deleted there is a copy in K9, giving you a chance to retrieve the message.
When a GOOD EMAIL ADDRESS arrives, RIGHT CLICK on it in K9 and select WHITELIST, FROM ADDRESS, OK. In PopTray, RIGHT CLICK on the email and select LISTS, ADD SENDER TO WHITELIST, OK.

Use the FreePOPs UPDATER when ever you have trouble downloading from a WEBMAIL Service. It will download any new LUAs for FreePOPs.
You CAN WIN the battle with SPAMMERS.
