poptrayU help file

Small point: the poptrayU help file (.chm) has a section describing a section called "Advanced Options - Miscellaneous". But at least in v 5.2.6 there's no such section.

In particular, the LogRules option, which is described as being there, is actually on the Rules tab of the Options.

poptrayU + ssl

Will poptrayU recognize the ssl dll's (ssleay32.dll and libeay32.dll) if I just extract them from an archive and put them into PopTrayU's plugins folder? Or do I really need to run the setup. exe files?
Thanks!

logic of adding rows

Can someone confirm: if I start with a rule row R1 and then add a row R2 then poptray ORs the two (ie, runs R1 OR R2) so that the action fires if either R1 and R2 are true? If so, is there any way to get (within a single rule) the effect of R1 AND R2?

Thanks!

updating the whitelist

I wrote a little script that takes an email address off the clipboard, and adds it to PopTray's whitelist file. Question: do I need to stop and restart PopTray for this to take effect, or will PopTray re-read the whilelist file the next time it checks my email?

checking a regex rule

Can someone help me on this one? I'm trying to set up a rule which looks in a header field called X-Spam-Score for more than three parenthesized asterisks. 1. Am I correct that we can't refer explicitly to the text of a specific header field? That is, any expression that I write should NOT contain "...

Re: uodating a rule

I'm not sure what happened on your system. You would have to RELOAD the RULE.INI into WORDPAD once you made the changes before the changes would show up. Follow the instructions above and the RULES should change. As far as reaching the RULES limit, you're not even close, users have reported using o...

uodating a rule

Is it possible to change a rule, once it's defined? I was testing a regex rule by trying to log it whenever it fired. But nothing ever got into the log. So I decided to simplify the rule to see what was going on. Instead of a regex rule, I changed it to "Header | contains | [stuff]" and did Save Rul...

/QUIT working?

Is the command-line option /QUIT working correctly? I tried poptray.exe /multiple action:check /quit and this starts a second instance of poptray, checks the server, but then appears to remain resident, so I end up with two poptray incons in my tray. Could this be because both instances of PT are us...

I've not had this problem on XP (pro). I suppose one question is, what happens to poptray.ini when things get confused? The path to the email exe should be in the [options] section: does it get deleted, changed or what?

yes that was the problem. There's another message here with a bit more details of the original problem, and a confirmation that it's fixed in the current (version3) PopTray.

For what it's worth, I've used every beta of PopTray on an XP (pro) box, and have never had the problem mentioned here. One thing to note is that I've got a huge amount of memory (1G ram) - perhaps the problem arises when memory is scarce? Could the original poster supply some system details?

"Don't check between" not working

I think this may have slipped through the cracks, but it doesn't look to me as if the "don't check between" feature is working: From the PT ini file: [Options] DontCheckTimes=1 DontCheckStart=7:00:00 PM DontCheckEnd=6:00:00 AM From the PT log: (right-truncated!) 10/7/2003 12:02:58 AM DELETE **SPAM**...

Consider the case where rule1 says "delete" but rule2 says "protect". Unless Renier makes ordering of the rules relevant, then we obviously want to continue down the list.

Renier, if you mean that if 2 "delete" rules apply to the same email, then the log should contain 2 entries (assuming that both rules specify Log Entries) then I don't think it's working correctly. Lots of the spam that I get falls under 2 or more rules, and I've never seen more than one entry in th...

Is the option of not checking between certain hours working correctly? I"ve got this set to not-check between 1900 and 0600 , but it seems to be having no effect.

No, I don't think so --- at most one rule per email is written to the log. What I really wanted to know was whether that one rule in the log is the one which actually took action on the email - is that correct?
