I got that message twice, seems it was caused by emails larger than 7 Mb in both cases (I use K9, avast, but not plugins). I had to switch to an older version.

Thanks, but, no, that's not the problem: I have ADSL 512/128. Also, the error appears before timeout (i.e. if timeout is set to 60 seconds, it closes the connection at 20)

Maybe you could better try Magic Mail (http://mmm3.sourceforge.net/) a very tiny mail checker (less than 150 kb) with similar features than poptray

I use this regexp rule to catch attachments with some of the extensions usually used by viruses:

.cpl, .exe, .pif, .vbs, .bat, .com, .scr, .something.zip (i.e: .txt.zip)

^Content-Disposition:\s*attachment;\s*filename=".*\.(cpl|exe|pif|vbs|bat|com|scr|.{3}\.zip)"

1gb free account with pop access at spymac.com

Not an advertisement, I just discovered that service and thought that somebody would be interested in it, as it works fine with our loved program :)

maybe because it reacts with false positives like "Essex", "Blow-fish" or the messages contain that words (the name of a virus, i.e.) also, the regexp is formally correct, but it doesn't makes too much sense the ".*)+" part, as it doesn't really matters if there is more than one of that words: the r...

I did something better: I installed poptray from scratch in another computer with W98 (in my comp. I use XP), so no previous rules, blacklist, accounts, options... nothing Then I created two rules with two rows each I checked the "Not" box in the second row of the second rule and, as before, the sec...

I have no idea of where can be the problem... I only know that if I I mark as "Not" the first row (or criteria) of a rule, it seems to work fine, however, if I check any other row, automatically appears an "X" in the same row of all the other rules. Unchecking these 'false' boxes has not any effect ...

"Never say never again" Poptray locked today while testing an account with 250 mails (most of them spam). The rotating star just freezed, use of cpu increased to 60%, and I had to terminate it. Then, I just disabled some RegExp rules, checked the mail, the active rules deleted about 120 messages, I...

Serious bug: Messing Rules again

I'm using beta5, and I found a bug that can have catastrophic consequences:

I added a second row in a rule and checked the "Not" box. As a result, ALL rules have changed the second row to "Not", what can give a lot of false positives if they're really processed in this way

"regular expressions with a vengeance" lol

I use a lot of regular expressions, and poptray never locked up so far. Try to post the rule, maybe has some kind of paradox that Poptray can't solve

No, you are right; the {0,10} allows all that. However, as my main languaje is spanish and I also have white lists and rules to protect good mails, it will rarely will return a false positive in my case.

But I admit that for more security is better to use: (group1)(\s|\W|&nbsp|<[^>]*>)*(group2)

You had a good idea. I modified it a bit: (wordgroup1)(\s| |<[^>]*>)*.{0,10}(wordgroup2) and now you will say "Oh, no, the infamous .{0,10} again. This guy is obsessed with that" ;) hehe. It's just that i find the {0,10} very useful to specify proximity: if two of the "forbidden" words are close...

It confuses me  the idea of the rule was to filter i.e. amateur stars, as well as: AmateurStars amateur_stars amateur stars amateur stars amateur blonde stars amateur&nbps;stars amateur &nbps;stars and of course: amateur
stars but not... "amateur skiers where several injured while t...

Of course I never wanted to patronize you, I just wanted to make clear that the regexp that you posted should not be used, because they can give a lot of troubles, and people may think that using regular expressions is a bad idea another example: \b([vi1!a@gr]((<[^>]*>)|(-))?){5}a would, in fact, gi...
