order of rules

If 2 PopTray rules apply to a given email, which one actually fires and which will be listed in the log? (I want to test that a rule I've composed is actually doing something).

I don't think that the safe checking can be the answer - otherwise, why does PT fail to delete the message with the SP header, but does so when there's a separate, tailored rule?

I'm baffled. I don't think it is the timing: I just received a message in the PT viewer which contained the SP spam-recognition string; but PT did not delete it. I then set up a rule to delete it based on other information present in that message's header. Closed PT, checked mail. The email disapear...

OK, it just happened again: the message was clearly marked as spam by SP, but PT didn't delete it. I manually deleted it, and that seemed to work fine. Could it be a timing problem? There seems to be a spate of "security update" messages coming in very freuqently, and they all "look" pretty much the...

Thanks for your suggestions, but that's not it. (a) SP will automatically whitelist only non-spam messages, and these are clearly marked as spam; (b) but I checked anyway, and there are no listings in SP's automatic list at the moment; and (c) I have only 1 account set up in PT.

Yes, I'd previously read your posting and I don't think it is the same - at least not exactly. You deal with manual deletions, I'm dealing with Rule-based ones. However, next time it happens I'll try a manual delete and see what happens. Does anyone know if this happens only with B14? Are other expe...

Non deletion of spam

I've got PopTray (b14) set up to work in conjunction with SpamPal, and I've set up a PT rule to delete any message when the text inserted by SpamPal appears in the subject line. However, sometimes SP marks a message as spam, the indicator text is there, and yet PT doesn't delete the message. The tex...

My previous remark in this thread, that the error appears to stop poptray's rules from working, is wrong. The rules do in fact work. So it seems that this error, though annoying, is not critical - you can still add rules, and they do work, though you've got to put up with the error message.

(more) .. it also looks to me as if this prevents any of poptray's rules from working at all.

Yes, I think this may be an NT4 problem. I'm running B13 on both NT4 (sp5) and winxp with the *same* set of rules -- the rules in NT4 were copied from the XP computer, and then imported into PopTray. I always get the "index out of bounds" error on NT, never on XP. This also happend when I hadn't imp...

This is great - many thanks! But would you also clarify: are whitelist entries checked only against From (and no other field)? If this isn't so, which fields are looked at?

Thanks again!

whitelists

Is it correct that entries in the whitelist are matched only against the From: field? (And in particular, not against the Sender: field)? If so, is there a way to set up a Rule whose effect is to short-circuit any other rules (so that if THIS rule fires, then nothing else is checked)? The "Ignore" a...

PopTray and SpamPal RegExp

Has anyone been able to get PopTray to work with SpamPal's regex plugin? I've activated the plugin, and it works fine when I check my email via Eudora. However, PopTray never seems to use the plugin : PopTray sends a query to SpamPal (as it should; confirmed by the SpamPal log) but the Regex filter ...

Renier kindly sent me a copy of K-1.05, which I installed; and I can report that I'm now seeing stuff in K9's Recent Emails tab. So that was the answer - use the older version of K9. I post this just in case anyone else has a similar problem.

Renier, thanks! That could well be the answer. So: does anyone have a copy of K9 v 1.05 that they'd be willing to post/send? On the K9 site, all the old versions appear to link to the same place, which permits one to obtain only the current version. (If this is wrong, could someone point me to a pla...

Clarification re whitelist: I have no whitelist defined in K9, only in PopTray. So I expect that we're actually in agreement on this point. I'm still getting nothing in K9, though from the log, it is retrieving and sending on all mails requested by PopTray. I set up a K9 server and tried it out: thi...

I'd like to resuscitate my previous question: I did get 1 message in k9's input; but only one. This morning I have about 7 emails, none of which are on my PopTray whitelist, but in k9 I have nothing. The k9 log shows the mail being received, but not processed. It's evidently a k9 issue - I must have...

Strange - it seems to be working now (maybe it took a while to think
about it?) - and now I do in fact see the emails in K9's Recent Emails tray.

So please ignore my last posting - and thanks again for the setup instructions - very clear.

OK, I've done this --- thanks! --- but I'm not sure what should happen next. With both K9 and poptray running, I send myself an email, subject = test. I then ask PopTray to check my account. It does so, and retrieves the test message. However, in k9 : the log shows that the mail was checked, and in ...
