Mis-interpreting RFC2822 orig-date?
Most message headers contain a "Date:" field (the origination date, or orig-date) of the form: Fri, 21 Nov 1997 09:55:06 -0500 But some contain a date that looks like Fri, 21 Nov 1997 09:55:06 EST The orig-date is the local time of the sender when the sender clicked "send". These formats are specifi...

There are a few bug reports like this one (cannot mark-as-spam messages with an empty from address), but I don't see a clear answer on how this will be reoslved. For my purposes, I would like to be able to mark these as spam. Usually, the header looks like: From: John Smith or From: John Smith <> Is...

I've found why it was only happening to some people (and not to me). It seems that if you were using the "Retrieve Body" option, then PopTray (since 3.0.3) ignored the error. I've fixed the bug in PopTray 3.1 (beta 5). Sorry, please clarify. I do NOT use the "retrieve body" option. I think that you...

I cannot recreate this error with the latest version of PopTray. Are the people that are getting this error using the latest version of PopTray? When I use the examples given above it works fine, except in PopTray 3.0.2 and earlier. Are you maybe using any protocol plugins? I use 3.0.3 with the Hot...

With all due respect to everybody, especially the PopTray developers who provide us with a great tool for free, the problem with discussing K9 is that it suggests that a separate product should be used to work around a problem with PopTray. So, here I go again, keeping these threads at the top of th...

I don't think I've seen this problem, but I use multiple accounts, so maybe it's hard to tell. I am unable to catch empty from addresses, but they don't crash PopTray. I do catch empty subjects, every day, and these are handled nicely. I have been having the "@ outside address" problem seen in anoth...

rdsok asked for examples. Here is the header of an email that seems to meet the criteria, note the two "from" addresses. If this header doesn't break in your tests, report back on this thread. I am getting these emails almost every day, eventually I'll send you a header that is a killer. It's hard f...

As long as we're on the topic of "from" field bugs, and while you're issuing a patch for the "@ outside address" error :) , you could also issue a patch for the problem (discussed in other threads) that make it impossible for me to automatically delete messages where the from address is empty. I get...

Re: whitelist vs. sounds
And just because he is in the whitelist, it shouldn't ignore all my rules.
Correct, a whitelisted sender might still trigger some rules. But in my opinion, a whitelisted sender should never be affected by any rule that "marks as spam" or "deletes from server", no matter what ...

I can count overall emails by using "subject wildcard * IGNORE" and "new messages only". I can count deleted messages accurately. But protected messages can't use the "new messages only" checkbox because the second time the server is checked, the messages are not new and are no longer protected. Eve...

Thanks, I'll try that. In my experience, PopTray makes a pass to mark protected messages, messages for deletion, and ignored messages. Messages to be deleted are marked twice (by a delete rule and by the ignore rule). The second pass actually deletes the spam. I think the second pass re-runs all the...

Strategy for reporting number of emails on server
The rules.log file reports on all the rules that matched, but there is no report of the number of emails that were actually on the server. I'd like to calculate the percentage of spam versus legitimate email, but I don't see the total. I tried an "ignore wildcard subject contains *" rule at the end ...

I think that there is some room for a "rule exchange" among PopTray users. Even with regular expressions, there is a potential for hundreds of rules. My goal is zero false positives, and I sacrifice the overall spam ID rate to ensure zero false positives. So my blacklist is very small, but I use a l...

I know the K9 topic is being beaten to death in other threads, but... ...what's the point of using PopTray with one rule? Most mail clients can automatically delete incoming messages based on a simple subject rule. Or if you really want to delete the mail from the server before the mail client sees ...
