Open Log File Quickly

Post by henchard » Sun May 30, 2004 12:00 pm

Hi just thought I would share this - it ain't rocket science (and I'm sure those experts out there will have a much slicker way!) but may be of use to someone. I'm using Win98 but presume it will work with other windows versions.

I wanted a quick way to check the log file (I see that someone else has asked for this as a features request - but until/if it happens!).

First I downloaded editor2 a nice small replacement for Windows notepad from here

and saved it to its own directory. Then I created a shortcut on the desktop with a command line argument that forces it to open with the poptray log

in my case

"C:\Program Files\editor2\Editor2.exe" C:\Program Files\PopTray\users\John\Rules.log

Then in the properties for the shortcut (right click properties) I set it to function when CTRL + ALT + L are pressed.

Voila! any time I want to check the log the key strokes bring up the log immediately. It's also a nice little text editor to associate all your text files with as well.

I use StrokeIt, and I created a mouse gesture to open it from poptray
