Renier: A NON-Free PopTray Clone

Post by Dutchman » Sat Oct 02, 2004 7:59 pm

Hi Renier,

First of all, thank you for a great program, but I'm wondering if perhaps some fraudulent person/company is selling your program after changing only it's name:

At about the same time that I discovered PopTray I found out about a (non-freeware) clone of it: "TrayMail" (I don't remember which of the two programs I found and installed first). You'll find more info about TrayMail at: http://www.gsoftwares.com/modules.php?n ... cle&sid=30

Not only does TrayMail look exactly the same as PopTray, even more strange is the fact that when I have PopTray running (which is always), and I click on the TrayMail icon on my desktop, the PopTray message window is opened instead of "TrayMail being started. (And yes, I did check the properties of the TrayMail shortcut on my desktop to verify the link :)).

So my question is: Are you aware of this (possible) scam?

Cheers,
Ron

I agree I think it is certainly a PopTray 3.1 rip off. Whoever is behind this didn't take much time to change much at all. It's funny they didn't include the help file which of course is only available in English currently.

Go get'm Renier...

Traymail is for sale at :

What a shame to write your name (Andre Luiz de S.F.) under another man's (Renier Crause) work.
The guy even did steal the translations. Although strictly speaking i gave my translation to renier, and therefore he is the legitimate owner, i feel robbed as well !!

They didn't provide any useful contact info. Looks like they are trying to stay under the radar some.

So I went a bit further and here are the DIG results

I also took the time to post a complaint with the website http://www.siliconaction.com/ that quosego found.

It's a RIPOFF, I transferred my PopTray.ini into the clone's directory and it worked pefectly, I had the same accounts and settings including passwords and the sound settings from PopTray also.

I just recieved a reply from the site he had posted the ripoff version on. Here is their reply
SilconAction wrote:We thank you for your warning.
We'll contact the developer (Gsoftwares) and ask him for an explanation.
It's certainly not our policy to sell it if his software confirmed to be stolen
from another developer.

Thanks again.
