PopTray 3.0 (pre-beta 0.8)

Post by Renier » Tue Apr 22, 2003 12:20 pm

Over the Easter weekend I did A LOT of PopTray programming, so here is a new alpha release for you to enjoy.
Main changes since last pre-beta:
(+) Plug-ins (Notify,Protocol).
(+) IMAP4 plug-in.
(+) POP3 over SSL plug-in.
(+) Clickable URL links in Preview.
(+) Right-click add to white/black list.
(+) Mark as Spam & Delete Spam.
(+) BlackList mark as Spam (option).
(+) Info window to show new messages and account summary.
(+) Macros in Rules Execute File (e.g. %SUBJECT%).
(+) Option what to display while checking.
(-) Add Account didn't update accounts dropdown in rules.
(-) Prevent duplicate accounts in Queue.
(-) After deleting bottom rule, it was still active.

The IMAP and SSL code was tested on some Windows mail servers I downloaded and installed. Note sure whether it would work on all servers. IMAP doesn't support the "Preview Top Lines" option yet. I still have to read the 100+ pages RFC for IMAP4 to see how to do this.

Copy the plug-in dll's into the plugins directory and the OpenSSL dll's into your PopTray directory. Once you enabled the Plug-ins, please quit and restart PopTray for the protocols to appear in the accounts setup (I will automate that later).

From the message list window the DEL key to delete a message doesn't work anymore.

Oops. Yes, I removed it because it was executed if you press "del" anywhere (even when the options tab had focus). I forgot to add it back in only when the mail list has focus.

Great Renier!! Excellent release, now I finally switched to the new beta 8)

Just one suggestion for the translations/translators: would it be possible to create just a small textfile only with the new lines of text? It would be easier to implement the descriptions of the new features in the already existing ptlang files.

In "language.ptlang" I put all the new text at the bottom of the file (while "blank.ptlang" is alphabetical). I'll include the translation file with the next release. Lots of new text to translate !

Thanks Renier!

I already started translating what was obvious. Unfortunately the drop down menu for the tray icon is not yet translateable, as well as the roll overs for "Check" in the Mails tab.

I marked a mail as spam by accident. "Unmark as spam" is needed too!

Great JOB

Renier,

Great job with 0.8. I love the notification window.

I dont suppose the window could be reduced in size a bit. So that it is more of a notification window rather than a functional interface. After all, a simple click on the tray icon brings up the interface.

Personally, I only want to know about the newly received message via the notification window as opposed to having all the un-collected messages displayed as well. Much like MSN Messenger does.

Also, can you make the window delay configurable?

Also, I resized some of the columns in that notification window and Poptray doesn't remember the settings.

Thanks again for a great release!

I have quick checking enabled, and found this version threw a fatal exception when checking mail for the first time.

I disabled quick checking, refreshed, and then re-enabled quick-checking, and it's now working happily.

update: it's not fixed.....I generally get an access violation each time I restart PopTray, and when navigating to the "Plugins" tab. I removed all the DLLs from the plugins directory, and it no longer generates an access violation on the options dialog.

However, it still generates an access violation on startup.

I'm reverting back to pre-beta 0.7 for now.

I experienced problems when I didn't installed *BOTH* 0.8 and plugins into right folders (as Renier told me please note two files from plugins zip files MUST be placed into PT main folder!).

After that, no problem at all found (just little bugs), but I didn't find any AV.

At this stage any non-plugin DLLs (like the OpenSSL dlls) in the plugins directory will cause an AccessViolation. PopTray doesn't (yet) check that the DLL is really a plugin or not.

 I spoke too early....
I just added 15 new accounts to PT 3.0a8 and I'm starting receiving AV during checking... :?:

So, I turned back to 0.7 and everything was right. I closed PT and started again 0.8: now PT works fine.

IMHO, the problem is maybe with the .ids files. My PT friends, please make a test coming back to 0.7 and them moving again with 0.8. Did something change as for me? :?:

ps from this evening until Sunday I'll go in holiday :!: & work to Rome: so, I'll not write too much... But I've got my notebook with me... who knows?

I've just downloaded pre-beta 0.8.2, and it's working fine.

Thanks Renier.

BTW, I've added my current language.ptlang file to the PopTray 3.0 (pre-beta 0.8.2) zip file, to help with trasnlation. It's not complete yet, but it's a start.

German translation is almost complete. I'll send it to you asap.

Some things that cannot be translated:
- "Check" rollver in Mails tab

- Mails tab, when rightclicking on message
* Rules
* Lists

stays at it is. All the rest in the context menu works fine.
