PopTray 3.0 (beta 12)

Post by Renier » Mon Sep 08, 2003 10:47 am

Changes
(+) Test Account (show server software and UIDL response).
(*) Changed plugin interface to "stdcall" for C++ compatibility.
(*) Changed execute program restore mode from SW_SHOW to SW_NORMAL.
(*) Different tab icon when account has unviewed messages.
(-) KeyboardLights: Switch off scroll-lock when running email client.
(-) Bug in Indy message processing when body contains "--" on a line.
(-) Wrong message icon in Advanced Info.
(-) Kept adding body to rule criteria when switching option (translated).

Note: Since this beta uses a new interface to the plugins, all previous plugins are now incompatible. Please download version 0.3 of the plugins to work with beta 12 or later. Since this is still beta software, the plugin interface might still change before the release of PopTray 3.0.

Under the new "Test Account" button the Accounts toolbar. You won't see the button if you have a customized toolbar unless you delete your poptray.customize file, or add it to your toolbar manually.

Concerning the "Test Account":
Am I right in assuming that if the window shows "UIDL:" the servers supports it?! Maybe adding "OK!" or "Nope!" would clarify that a little :)

No, it would only work if there are messages on the server, and then you would see the UIDL output below.

I see...

After quickly checking with a testmail to all of my accounts, I receive the following:

UIDL:
1 JHD"!F*-!!f=K"!A_f"!

The "1" appears in all accounts, the cryptic signs afterwards differ from account to account. Could you decipher that just by telling how to find out if UIDL is spoorted?

If you get any kind of response like that, then UIDL is supported.

The UIDL command gvies the message number, followed by a space and then a unique ID (which is what PopTray uses to identify the message).

A small bug with the "test account" functionality.....

The text box used to display the connection info isn't read-only.

Also, the font used for the "OK" button on the connection info form is different than the fonts used elsewhere in PopTray (it looks like Courier New instead of Arial).

Cheers,
Martin.

Since we are discussing the "test button" here: :)

I accidently dragged the testbutton in the message window. No matter which account was selected, every test was performed on the first account.

After putting the testbutton in the account window the correct behaviour appeared.

Hi Renier,

Test account is VERY helpful - perhaps it needs an "Explanation" button that would pop up an explanation of the output and tell you to send yourself a mail if there's nothing on the server.

One request for a later beta: could you check the keyboard accelerators? On the Accounts tab:

Alt-A doesn't add an account

Alt-D doesn't delete

Alt-T doesn't test

Alt-B DOES work

Alt-N brings up the mail client instead of changing focus to the Name field
the first Alt-V doesn't work - it clicks the Never button (and you may not figure out why your mail doesn't get checked after you type Alt-V!)

Alt-R puts the focus where Alt-V SHOULD put it

Alt-L and Alt-P both DO work

Alt-O doesn't work

Alt-E doesn't work

the first Alt-S doesn't work - it clicks the Save button instead

the second Alt-V works, but you may think you're pressing the first Alt-V

Alt-H for Help doesn't work

Thanks, and apologies for harping on the keyboard accelerators. One of the great things about PopTray is its unique keyboard-friendly interface, and it would be terrific if it worked all the way through.

For us, the test account buttons makes sense (although not to me before reading this thread).

To everybody else, it is nonsense.

How about either explaining "YES, this account supports UIDL", sparing the casual user for a response that looks like an error. Or just something like that written below the nonsense.

Now I REALLY like my proposal for automatic UIDL configuration of each account. That would HELP people.

Dragging a toolbar button to the toolbar and then get a totally weird response helps nobody but nerds.

The toolbar button would have been there by default if you haven't already customized your toolbar.

Just used it on an empty acount. There is no tooltip (error?) and nothing showed in the window. Wouldnt people think that this is a test of the account as a whole?

And why not have this on the accounts tab instead? That is where I looked for it.

The setting for UIDL is placed in options.
The settings for the account in the accounts area.
The check account is in the mails area.

Hmm... :| :?

spaceman-spiff

Excellent program

Post by spaceman-spiff » Sun Sep 14, 2003 8:39 am

Hi,

Just popped in to say how pleased I am with this program
I never used any version before, someone told me of your beta version and after 5 days I think it's the best anti spammer I've seen so far
Easy to use, no bugs found, does everything I want (keep out the rubbish)

I've donated a certain amount of money, I didn't know how much to give, but perhaps in a year I will repeat it :)

Thanks
