PopTray "freezing" while checking GMail

Post by havanamike » Tue Dec 14, 2004 8:52 pm

I have noticed the last couple of days while checking my GMail account, PopTray is "freezing". The GMail account star is shown in the icon and the hint indicates it is checking GMail, but the icon seldom times-out the check and I cannot right-click to bring up the menu.

PopTray worked great for the last few weeks since GMail has started allowing Pop, but just recently the freeze-up has started. Anyone else have this problem lately? May be a recent change to GMail itself.

ditto, for the same number of days. I believe this is Gmail servers contributing to this problem.

I noticed today that my gmail box was "full" of new mail, and yet the checker had not indicated there was new mail. It acts like it is checking it fine, but it's actually not. Some of the mail was from late November.

Any suggestions or updates we should apply?

Thanks for your help.

It checks my Gmail but doesn't notify me of new messages.

Had that too, but now it's working again.

Nevertheless, shouldn't PopTray time out in a certain interval instead of freezing?

I don't have the Gmail plugin installed since Gmail supports normal POP3. I solely use the SSL Plugin so that could be the culprit.

Got the same problem here. Turned on the gmail POP3 - thunderbird downloads new messages perfectly with SSL, but poptray with the pop3 SSL plugin freezes the program.

Sometimes it works, but over the past 2 days its been 50 / 50 if it works.

Anychange of a bug fix?

Down grading from the beta to 3.0.3 seems to fix the problem, no freezes yet.

Still hanging on gmail from time to time.

Just a note to say PT is still hanging from time to time on the gmail check. The only way to get out of the hang is to end task on PT.

... and still doing it

Post by martin.noergaard » Tue Apr 19, 2005 8:30 am

Hi there,

I'm using the POP3 SSL plug-in and haven't changed any setup around Poptray or plug-ins recently. This weekend (15/4) Poptray suddently started freezing up when checking my gmail account.

... Problem is still there ...

Martin

Hi there,

Caved in to the wonders of FreePOPs. It's a lot faster than using the PopTray POP3 SSL Plug-in. I'm now using it for both Outlook Express and Poptray. Sped up mailchecking a lot.

Thanks!

Martin :)
