Hi

"failed to obtain lock"
I get this error since I had to turn the smtp authorization on.
I use outlook express and I found that option easily.I don't have any problems with it.

I've tried to find it in Poptray,but I can't.
Please help.

it looks everything's normal back again
maybe it was just another server's temporary malfunction

This error message does not ring a bell with me, probably a server message indeed.

PopTray shouldn't be affected by SMTP settings at all. It only checks POP3 email servers.

I suspect you had both Outlook Express and Poptray running at the same time and they were both using the email server at the same time. Most servers will only allow one connection at a time, if Poptray access the server when OE was, it would give an error.

smtp authorization shouldn't be a factor

smtp authorization is only used when sending mail, so it should not affect how Poptray works.

Rdsok is probably right, it does sound like a sharing violation error, probably caused by two programs trying to access the file at the same time.

You would probably want to stagger the mail check times for OE and Poptray.

Perhaps you could set them to any different prime number from 13 minutes and above. Or simply set OE to check less often.

A handy list of prime numbers is available at:
