Using PopTray 3.1 on Windows XP SP2, some e-mail attachment cannot be previewed, always from few senders such as e-mail to fax service provided by https://secure.konferex.com/ and voice mail from http://www.sipphone.com/. It appears to me that attachment even have a wrong file extension for attachment from http://www.sipphone.com/. In any case, all attachments can be viewed correctly via Outlook Express. I have tried to include an example of voice mail from http://www.sipphone.com/. Unfortunately, I found this forum neither allow post with attachment nor e-mail source inline. :(

It is by design

PopTray is not meant to be a full mail client, and by default will only download mail headers. It only has a "quick preview" function which does not display attachments.

IMHO, attachments should not be processed in the interests of security and speed. Anyway, that is what your main mail client is for.

Some attachments are incorrect decoded sure is a bug

I bag to differ as spam not just limited to e-mail but faxes and telemarketing voice mail as well. While I don’t expect an e-mail checker has full mail client functionality, not even a reply function, I sincere hope an e-mail checker can allow users to determine whether an e-mail is a spam or not, including faxes and voice mail by e-mail.

I was not talking about displaying attachment either, just have correct attachment file extension with correct decoding so attachment can be opened by appropriate third party software.

Would it help to use a RULE to look thru the HEADERs for certain attachment wording and then use the RULES EXECUTE function to open the correct program to show that attachment?

Something like ADD RULE with CRITERIA of...

AREA = HEADER
COMPARE = CONTAINS
TEXT = your attachment criteria
ACTION = EXECUTE FILE and point the box to the correct program.
or ACTION = IMPORTANT BALLOON POPUP

SAVE RULES, QUIT PopTray and RESTART for rule to take effect.

Most fax-to-e-mail or voice-mail-to-e-mail service have exact same attachment file name or attachment file is named by an identification string with their system. Therefore, using rule to look thru the header for certain attachment wording simply won't work. Opening the attachment is the only way to determine whether the attachment is spam or not. Since PopTray 3.1 preview function body tab does show attachment(s) at the bottom of preview window, just some e-mail, always from same senders such as e-mail to fax service provided by https://secure.konferex.com/ and voice mail from http://www.sipphone.com/ don’t have correct file extension for the attachment, and attachment is not correctly decoded. As a result, it cannot be opened correctly. The only way to pre-view these e-mail is copy the raw message from PopTray 3.1 preview window then paste to a new text file, then change the file extension to .eml to let Outlook Express to decode the attachment correctly so attachment can be opened by appropriate third party software.

hok,

If you are previewing an email already.. Poptray can already save as a .EML file... no need to copy into a text file as you mentioned. It still doesn't help with your request... but at least makes saving the email easier.

It sure help!

Thanks for pointing out PopTray preview window can save e-mail into .eml file easily. I did not know that. It sure helps me to view attachment a lot easier now. I appreciate everyone's help!
