So do you think it's stable enough to link it from my site as a beta?

Can I install the new version on the new one or should I desinstall Beta 1 first ?

Thanks! :P

I desinstalled Beta 1. A dll refused to be deleted.

I, after having downloaded Beta 2, installed it.

I had different results.

The first time I checked the mail, I received the following window message : Poptray Hotmail Plugin Error Cannot send XMLHTPP Object. I clicked on OK and tried an other checking. Then icon stop for more than two minutes and, after that, kept rotating indefinitely.

I shut down my computer, reopened it and waited for the automatic checking. IT WORKED! But the small window opened at the same time than the main PopTray Window (not very important).

When seeing that I had a message (sent by myself), I tried the Preview and the Delete functions. Every time, I received a different message. Maybe there are some things to explain in an eventual Help file.

Time will tell me if it works fine regularly ... or if I had to take it back to the store to be reimbursed! :D

I could not find in the instructions what needs to be filled in for server and login.
Can anyone post this info here?

Last developments :

I succeeded to delete a Hotmail message but I have not not been able to view it.

It works pretty fine but seems fragile. For example, if I made a manual checking, I receive an error message. Maybe it is because I dont know well how to use it.

It seems like we are on the way to get a very interesting tool! 8)

In the posts following the one where bdr announces the release of beta 1, here is what he wrote :
bdr wrote:Goto Options - Plugins,
if the Hotmail plugin is correctly installed you will see it in the plugins list,
select the checkbox,
Save options.

Goto Accounts,
Select your Hotmail account,
Choose the Protocol: Httpmail (Hotmail),
Save account.
Don forget your user name (user@hotmail.com) and your password. According to bdr, you don't have anything to write in the server line. Naturally, you give Hotmail for the name of the account.

I did all that and it works with, maybe, some tiny problems.

I think there is just one thing thats causes problem. When, sometimes, I make a manual checking, I receive an error message (Cannot Send XMLHPTT Object).

Hotmail is very slow today and I am tired to watch the icons.

New development, part 2

Sometimes, the icons freeze, once it is the one of my regular account; an other time, it is the Hotmail one. When it happens, ProTray freezes too. I had to close PT by Ctrl-Alt-Del and then to reopen it.

And the message about XMLHPP Object regularly appears even if it does not create a problem every time. When it does, the OS shows a message saying that it will close the application, and it does.

Beside that, we have the Isabel's tail outdoor. You heard about it? :P

At this moment I still do not consider the plugin stable enough to Link to it.

I want to do some logging instead of using messageboxes (like 'Cannot Send XMLHTTP').
That will make it easier for me to see what's going wrong, and it will be more userfriendly (now PopTray just hangs till you press the button)

New(er) versions can be installed without uninstalling earlier versions.
homaquebec wrote:A dll refused to be deleted.
Whenever you're installing or uninstalling close PopTray!

Maybe your errors are time-outs?
homaquebec wrote:Sometimes, the icons freeze
The TrayIcon won't rotate and no progress is shown because of a VC++ vs Delphi problem.

New development, part 3

Post by homaquebec » Sat Sep 20, 2003 1:39 pm

Yesterday night, I deseabled the pluging because when checking, it sometimes frozen PopTray that I had to shut down and reopen.

This morning, PT checked the mail without the plugin on. Fine. Just one SPAM was not recognized among 33 messages. I manage my mail on my regular account than I enabled the plugin and waited for an automatic checking. I had heen notified by MSN that new messages were in my Hotmail account. It worked well. Even the spam has been recognized. I succeeded to delete them.

It means that PopTray Blacklist or rules can filter the Hotmail mail. Once the plugin will be more stable, it will possible to write my hotmail blacklist into my PopTray Blacklist. The same for my Hotmail contacts that will go in the PopTray WhiteList if they are not yet.

Later today, I received mail on Hotmail, I tried an other PT feature "Add this sender in the WhiteList" (maybe it is not exactly what it is written, but I dont want to change the language and make a test to find the right expression). It worked.

But, when I wanted to view the message, I received this message "Access violation of address C... Read of address C... And then I had to shut down PT and to reopen it. Question : Can I, with the plugin, view the Hotmail messages?

bdr,
Are my reports useful?

Note : for those who read my post, Isabel is an hurricane that, the last days, hit the east coast of USA: at least 25 deaths and about 2 billion $US ravages. The last effects (wind, clouds, rain) raised over eastern Canada yesterday and will stay here a part of today.

When I uninstalled the plugin, and started PopTray again (I closed PopTray when I uninstalled) then I get a "incompatibel plugin" error.

I found that in poptray.ini information about the hotmail account, which I deleted from poptray, was still present.

Why is it not removed? Reniers fault or the plugin programmers fault? :)

So, after deinstalling a plugin you have Refresh (F5) the Plugins list.

Renier, maybe PopTray could refresh the list itself when it detects a plugin does not exist anymore?
Now it gives the 'incompatible plugin' error :( which is not correct because there is no plugin at all....

It is a keyboard shortcut to check the mail in the current account.

Hopefully it will be linkable before PopTray 3.0 gets released, because I'd like to include it in the PopTray blurb.

In april 2002 i posted about the hotmail proxy that comes with foxmail (email client).
viewtopic.php?t=271
At that time it did not function in combination with PT.

I tried the latest version (comes with foxmail 5 beta) and it works perfectly (and relatively fast) with poptray. The program is a 174kb exe and seems to support yahoo as well.

For people that are actively testing the hotmail plugin for poptray this might be an interesting app to compare with.
http://fox.foxmail.com.cn/english2.htm

Ofcourse if you want to check hotmail permanently with PT a plugin is the better option.
