POPTray use wrong Ports for GMAIL?

Post by pimpi » Mon Jun 06, 2005 8:19 am

i had a look into my Firewall when Poptray checks my gmail account. I have installed the GMAIL Plugin but I get an "Socket Error #10054 Connection reset by peer".

Now I ask my self: Why connect Poptray over Port HHTP 80 and Port HTTPS 443 when I check my gmail account?

In the confix help of google they say you must config the mailclient for acitve SSL and POP3 Port "995"!

Ok, you can change the POP Port to 995 when you desable the GMAIL Plugin but then poptray doesn´t talk SSL :(

Any hint?

I suggest using FREEPOPS with PopTray to access HOTMAIL, GMAIL, AOL, YAHOO and other webmail.

KY Dave's solution is the best one available. The changes in Gmail protocols have made the plugin less attractive. Having said that, there is a SSL plugin for Poptray also so you can do it. I use it on mine all of the time but I manually check it.. the auto check wasn't stable enough.
